Free Marketing Techniques For Your Home Business

As an internet marketer we are always looking for new and
free or low costs methods of advertising our home business
opportunities. There are a gazillion ways to market for
free but how do you know which ones are the best?

I have two favorites that are making a big impact on the
search engines, Video marketing and Squidoo marketing.
These are both social marketing sites and web 2.0 which
both have high content and viewer exposure.

A Squidoo marketing lens is simple to setup even for a
beginner who knows little or nothing about html or website
design, they have step by step process to make it easy for
you. You are free to market any product you like without
fear of being removed. And if you look at many of the top
10 organic searches on Google you will see that many of
them come from Squidoo.

The key marketing strategy the home business owner should
bring to Squidoo is his or her own personality. When you
create a lens you are encouraged to be yourself. Add
modules that express you and your product or services. The
more creative you are the higher your ratings are in the
search engines and Squidoo.

Video marketing is much the same in that the more creative
you are and the more you express yourself the more views
you receive. The real difference here is obvious; this is
not written form, rather in front of a camera. Some people
are very uncomfortable with this method.

So, OK...you can still create expressive videos to promote
your home business by using such products as PowerPoint and
Audacity to create slide presentation with your voice as
the narrator. These too can rank high in the organic search
engines.

Both marketing methods are proven techniques to drive
massive traffic to your online business. Your really
success will boil down to whichever marketing method you
are more comfortable with. However, whichever you chose
make it fun. The "you" in these strategies is what connects
to others and produces sales.

The key to success in any online business is driving
traffic. If you can get just one creative video to go viral
you will drive thousands of prospects to your sales page.
Even if those leads are not the most targeted, this one
video will provide as many sales as hundreds of articles,
and email campaigns combined.

So get your creative juices going. Just go create your
Squidoo lens and make some type of fun video. If you do it
once, you will do it again and again and soon you will see
those sales come rolling in. Have Fun!

Law of Attraction:  You Only Need 51% Belief to Begin Attracting

I've seen too many people "beat themselves up'" as they
learn about the Law of Attraction and begin to apply it in
their lives. Why are they so hard on themselves?  Because
when their desire doesn't materialize in a few days, they
think they aren't doing it right or they don't believe
enough. They are under the impression that in order to
receive, they must have 100% belief -- no doubt at all. And
so they try to convince themselves, and the Universe, that
they DO have 100% belief, when, in their heart, they don't.

Here's good news! You don't need 100% belief, just 51% to
start the process of receiving all your goals, desires and
hopes whatever you want in life will start to become your
reality. Just believe that it's possible for you to have
what you've asked for. All you need to do is tip the scales
slightly and you will begin to notice small (or big)
evidence that your desire is on its way.

As you stay in the mind-set of possibility, possibility
grows into probability. Probability grows into belief and
belief grows into certainty. Certainty is the opposite of
doubt.

Here's a true story I received this week from Tony, a
coaching client:

"Since learning about the Law of Attraction, I have
discovered that there are times when I cannot BE the way
I'd like to be. This week, I found myself in an impossible
situation and I remembered what you said: 'Instead of
starting from a place of certainty, 100% guarantee, start
with it's possible.'

We visited friends in another state this weekend. On our
return flight, airport security was so tight, we actually
missed our flight by four minutes.  We arrived at our gate
(literally the farthest gate in the airport) with six
minutes to spare,.  However, they closed the aircraft ten
minutes before departure and would not open it for anyone.
We were put on the standby list for the next flight, which
was full. Every flight after that next one was full, and it
was important that we get back to go to work Monday -- we
both have full schedules, and staying another night was
less than ideal.

I couldn't bring myself to believe that we were going to
get on that next flight as 'standby.' My wife was still
freaking out that we missed our previous flight, we had run
out of baby food, and my son was getting cranky for a nap.

I could not bring myself to believe we were getting on that
flight, but I kept thinking 'it's possible.' The next thing
I know, one of the flight attendants took a fancy to my
son, and started chatting with my wife, and before you know
it, we were given-the last two seats on the aircraft.  She
arranged it so they were together, and we had a window. Our
son sat on our lap.

It's still hard to believe I "vibrated'" us onto that
aircraft, but I did keep it open as a possibility. So you
were right, I only had to believe by 51%. Thank you,
Rebecca!"

Think about all the times you HAVE received something when
you still had doubts about it. What is your desire today?

California Father Is Left Off The Hook From Having To Pay Child Support For Adult Son

Determining a parent's obligation to support a child in
California is pretty cut and dry in most cases.  However,
as the parties in a recent published case learned,
determining a parent's obligation to pay child support for
an adult child will usually depend on the particular facts
of the case.

In Marriage of Edwards, a family court determined that a
father's obligation to pay support to his ex-wife
continued, even though the child was an adult and was
attending a state university.  The parties had previously
stipulated that the father would continue to pay child
support after the child became an adult and agreed to split
the child's college tuition.  Under California law, the
father's obligation to pay child support would have ended
when their son attained the age of 18 and graduated high
school.  But for reasons not mentioned within the decision,
he agreed to pay child support until their son reached the
age of 25.

Several years after entering into the agreement, the father
filed an Order to Show Cause for modification of the child
support order, arguing that it was unjust and inappropriate
for him to continue to have to pay support, since he had a
significant decrease in income and the child was not living
with the mother.  Furthermore, the father argued that the
child was not longer in the care and custody of the mother,
since he lived at the university and had received a
sizeable financial aid packet from the state.

Mother, on the other hand, argued that their adult son was
still within her primary care, given that the son's "stuff"
was still at her house, he used the house to receive mail,
he listed the house as his address to the university, and
he came home for extended visits during the school's
breaks.  Consequently, the mother argued that it was not
unjust or inappropriate for the court to order the father
to continue to pay guideline child support.

The family court agreed with the mother and refused to
depart from the guideline formula for calculating child
support.  The lower court found that there was no change of
circumstances, warranting a departure from the guideline
formula.  The court proceeded to calculate child support
based on the guideline formula and lowered the child
support payment, based on father's decreased income.
However, the court granted the mother 100 percent timeshare
of the adult child, which is a significant factor in
California, as the amount of time a parent has
responsibility for a child impacts the amount of child
support to be paid.  Obviously, the lower court had bought
into mother's argument that she had primary care and
responsibility of the adult child.

Fortunately for the father, the Court of Appeal was not
persuaded by mom's argument, and reversed the lower court's
decision to order guideline child support.  The Court of
Appeal agreed held that ordering guideline child support
under the circumstances would be unjust and inappropriate.
Furthermore, based on the facts presented, the court
specifically found that the adult child was not in the
mother's primary care and responsibility.

In rendering its' decision, the Court distinguished the
case of In Re Marriage of Drake (1997) 53 Cal.App.4th 1139
where the guideline formula was applicable to child support
for a mentally incapacitated adult child whose mother took
full responsibility for his situation and care.

An obvious lesson from this case is that the court will
look to the parent who has responsibility of the child in
determining the child's custodial parent.  In a case where
the child is an adult it is possible that neither parent
may qualify.

This case is also an eye opener to those who enter into
agreements for the continued support of an adult child.  We
can see how a parent may get off of the hook by filing a
modification of child support, when it becomes apparent
that the other parent is no longer responsible for the
child.  In other words, these types of stipulations and
orders may be more modifiable then what we previously
imagined.  Thus, parties should be careful not to bargain
away significant rights on behalf of continued support of
an adult child.

On the other hand, the fact that the adult child attends
college does not mean that an order will not be
enforceable.  In a case where the adult child continues to
live with a parent, while attending a local college, the
parent is still primarily responsible for the child, and
the court would probably enforce the type of stipulation
entered into by Mr. and Ms. Edwards.

Credit Cards For Bad Credit: Three Facts They Don't Want You To Know

Is there such a thing as credit cards for bad credit? Are
those with credit blemishes destined to wander hopelessly
through the credit card abyss? No. And if anyone's told you
otherwise, I've got some advice. Make a list of all of the
people who have made you feel "less than" for not having
perfect credit. Make a list of all of the companies who
told you you'd have to pay hundreds of dollars for a credit
card to call your own. Then call those people and tell them
exactly what you'd like to see them do with their lies and
their "holier than thou" attitude. These three facts are
going to set you free.

1. You're Not Alone

Let them look down their nose at you all they want. The
fact of the matter is, their credit probably isn't perfect
either. Those who live in glass houses...

Seriously. Do you want to know what the percentage is of
people with perfect credit? Less than one percent.
Seriously, 850 is a perfect credit score. If you're in a
room of 100 people, chances are that not even one of them
has an 850 credit score. In fact, only about 13 percent of
people even score above 800.

So if anyone tries to make you feel bad for not having
perfect credit, shrug it off. Barely anyone has perfect
credit. Yours may be worse than some, but you're by no
means alone in the world of those who need a credit card
for bad credit.

2. Low Rates and Low Fees Do Exist

Have you ever been in a situation where you didn't know
whether you should laugh hysterically or scream in utter
frustration? That's exactly how I feel when someone tells
me they've been told by one credit card company or another
that they should have to pay hundreds of dollars in fees
for the privilege of carrying a credit card.

There are very good credit cards for bad credit that
require very low annual fees ($70 or less), no processing
or application fees and reasonable interest rates (less
than 16 percent). No, they're not as great as the terms
offered to those with credit scores of 700 or above, but
they are definitely reasonable.

The next time a company tells you that you should pay them
ridiculous amounts for their credit card because your
credit is tarnished, laugh and then hang up. It's exactly
what they deserve.

3. Prepaid Cards Are Not the Solution

It's important to understand that prepaid credit cards are
not the solution to credit woes. Yes, they'll get you a
credit card number to use for online purchases but they do
nothing to improve your credit rating since they don't
report your card activity tor the credit bureaus.

Do yourself a favor and get a real credit card for bad
credit. These cards report to the credit bureaus. This
means your diligent responsibility will pay off as your
credit rating continues to rise.

And there you have it. The three credit card facts that the
bad credit card companies don't want you to know. Laugh in
the face of up-front application fees. Scorn exorbitant
interest rates and charges. You know the score. Stick with
the good credit cards for bad credit and get ahead of the
game.

Finding Time by Avoiding Procrastination - Jump in to Boost Productivity and Time

"Take time to be deliberate; but when the time for action
arrives, stop thinking and go in." Napoleon Bonaparte

Finding time is an ultimate challenge that requires your
flexibility and initiative. Even if you experience success
through planning, you may still procrastinate when it comes
to converting plans into actions. Remember that even the
best plans are worthless if you do not act upon them. And
that any actions taken in good faith can be learned from.
Taking action is a commitment to participate in a situation
at your current level of understanding. It requires
humility and a sense of responsibility.

So like it or not, fully ready or not, sometimes you do
need to "just do it", to reap the rewards of all your good
planning. It is, ultimately, an act of compassion to
yourself to be motivated by responsibility rather than
perfectionism.

Could you be depriving yourself of valuable opportunities?

If you procrastinate with fear-based 'circular planning',
jumping in (with eyes wide open) will restore your
productivity.

* You plan the same activity several times over, out of

expectations for your first step. First steps can be
overburdened with symbolism, making them seem riskier than
they need to be. Calmly review how you will pick yourself
up if you stumble, and affirm that learning as you go is a
productive use of your time, too.

Mobilization Tip #3: Take the next step, breaking it down
if necessary into sub-steps. Notice how initial anxiety
often gives way to satisfaction once you move beyond
planning and immerse yourself in your new activity.

When 2 + 2 = 5 In Internet Marketing

When you first thought about venturing into the world of
Internet marketing, you no doubt were looking at the many
benefits and opportunities online businesses could offer.
Then, after jumping in, you realized that success may take
a little more time and work than expected.

If you have been giving your business plenty of time and
effort and still aren't seeing good results, I may have an
answer for you as to why things seem to be moving so
slowly. I work with many beginners and I see many of them
falling into the same ruts and routines which prevent them
from enjoying the success they seek.

Of course you first have to ask yourself if you are giving
your business an adequate amount of time and effort. If you
don't feel you are, then that is another matter. However,
if you feel like you are working hard without seeing good
results; the problem in most cases is focus.

Here is what I mean:

You know that traffic is the key to your success. You also
know there are many ways to generate traffic. You know how
beneficial search engine optimization can be. You
understand the power of article marketing. You realize that
AdWords is tough, but it can also be very rewarding. You
read how Twitter, Digg, My Space, and other social sites
can generate large amounts of traffic. You have heard about
Google's love affair with Squidoo (although that is
somewhat over now).

OK you get my point. You KNOW a lot about this stuff. You
KNOW it takes work and you are more than up for the task.

Here might be a sample of your weekly routine:

You write and optimize a page or two of content for your
site. You submit an article to EzineArticles. You tweak an
AdWords campaign you are trying to make work. You post to
Twitter once a day or so. You update your MySpace page and
added another page to your Squidoo lenses.

You feel like you put in a honest week's worth of work.
Just like last week and the week before that and the week
before that and....

You know where I am coming from there too don't you!

OK. You worked hard. But here is the problem. In almost
every aspect of Internet marketing, results from any one
method are greatly enhanced as more effort is added to a
given method. 10 hours of work spread across 6 or 7
different marketing methods will yield far fewer results
than 10 hours focused on just one method; results began
multiplying instead of simply adding up.

All 6 or 7 of the marketing methods you use are valid and
help make countless Internet marketers very rich. However,
you are only one person. If you try and spread your efforts
across all those traffic generating techniques, you will
surely be disappointed with the results.

Instead, evaluate your time and choose just one or two of
the methods and hit it or them hard with Relentless Focused
Action! Even if you only can do one at a time, you will see
more results from that one method then you saw from the
times you were attempting them all.

I won't attempt to tell you which methods to use; they all
can be very good traffic generating methods. In most cases,
SEO should be the foundation. However, the other methods
work too. If Twitter is your thing, go for it! If you
really get into writing and submitting articles, then go
full steam ahead there. Pick methods you like. Otherwise,
you won't do them justice.

Test this for yourself. Take a look at where you are right
now. Focus some intense marketing on just a method or two
for a few months and watch the results. I guarantee you
will see what I mean when I say Relentless Focused Action
is the key to your success.

Updating Your Writing Website - Good Content Is the Key

Your plans to have a presence as a writer on the internet
are taking shape. You've now created your most valuable
asset of all - your own website which will be invaluable in
helping to boost your writing career.

Heck, you may have already received some good work offers
from the website, or perhaps you have some potential
contracts in sight.

The topic to address now is how important it is for a
writer's website to be updated regularly.

First, a bit about the word 'regularly' - this does not
mean everyday!  Unless you've been writing full time for
the past ten years, you won't have enough quality material
to keep your website updated with fresh content so often.

Instead, try to update your website every couple weeks, at
the least every month.  Why?  Because the internet is all
about providing fresh content, and internet writing is no
different.

Even if when you first build your site you have a great
deal of  material, it is better to upload pages gradually -
the search engines will recognize this as the addition of
fresh content.

The top website building software allows you to put your
content up at one time, but schedule the release date of
each page!  A great tool.

If a potential client goes to your website and sees that it
hasn't been updated in a long time, then that client will
start to wonder, "What has this person been doing?  Are
they still up to the work or have they become complacent?"
What you want that potential client to think every time
that they visit your site is that you are a hard-worker who
is continually producing quality material.

As for how you update the site, there are a few things to
consider.

First of all, if your work gets accepted for publication,
make sure to mention it.  Once you have confirmation from
the publisher, put it up there, even if you don't have a
fixed date.

Second, make sure to keep your samples fresh.  If your work
is based on timely events, don't have samples dealing with
events that happened a year or two ago, try to keep it as
up to date as possible.  Of course, if that older work
netted you some sort of prize or award, the time
restriction doesn't apply.  In fact, work of yours that has
won recognition should be highlighted on the first page of
the website.

One last thing, if you are devoted to keeping your site up
to date, that will keep you writing material even during
slow periods.  This will keep your skills sharp and that is
always a good thing.

Landing a Sales Job with Job Boards

Navigating through job boards can be intimidating, but even
a novice job hunter can be successful by approaching the
task armed with the proper information and a plan of
action. First you must determine the category of sales job
that is your ideal. Are you seeking a specific industry?
How much do you need to make in order to support your
current lifestyle? Are you comfortable with commission
only, or do you want the stability of a sales job that
offers a base salary? Take your time with these decisions
as they will save you the time and effort you might
otherwise expend applying for jobs that aren't suitable in
the end. Be efficient!

Once you have your goals in hand, it's time to prepare your
resumes and cover letters. The key to securing a healthy
selection of job offers is customization. Choose the top
three industries you'd like to work in and create three
different resume templates to target each. Employers weed
through hundreds of resumes, so you need to make yours
unique and perfectly suited to the position. You needn't
rewrite the entire resume, just insert a few keywords
listed in the job description. Not only will this register

Indeed is the ultimate in efficiency and simplicity. Enter
a job title and keyword in the "what" box and a zip code in
the "where" box, and Indeed will pull all the ads from the
major job boards, local newspapers, and private companies
in your area. You should also register and upload a resume
to any job board with that option. This allows you to apply
for jobs without the headache of uploading every time, and
several of the job boards will post your resume in an area
for potential employers to seek you out. No worries--most
sites allow you to post several versions.

Things to remember:

Start out with specific keywords in the search boxes to
narrow the selection to your ideal jobs, but don't hesitate
to delete and/or change the keywords to create an even
larger list of possibilities. You never know what sort of
gem might be hiding in the boards that didn't turn up on
your first search because different keywords were used to
describe the same things.

Keep track of applications so you aren't caught off guard
when you're called for an interview!

Be prepared!

CUSTOMIZE! This is absolutely the strongest piece of advice
I can give. If writing isn't your thing, then ask a friend
to help or invest in a professional writer to create a nice
resume package. The quality of your resume and cover letter
are the determining factors in getting an interview. You
might be the best salesperson in the state, but if your
resume doesn't reflect a strong interest in the company or
list your greatest strengths, you'll never get the
opportunity to prove that.

5.  Learn some writing skills. You don't have to turn
yourself into a star copywriter, but your affiliate
marketing career can be helped enormously by good copy.
Take the time to learn how to write articles and good
content to promote your products. There are numerous
copywriting tutorials available, some free, some at a cost.
If you really feel that the writing is beyond you, and

Start growing now before things get better

This is the best time in years to create dramatic,
sustainable growth without having to invest in technology
or product innovation.  In fact, we may see the most
dramatic changes in decades in who the leading companies
are.

I have had several conversations with business CEOs
recently, and, not surprisingly, there is a common theme:
Fear.  There's also a lot of wondering what the answer to
creating growth is going to be.  But the secret to growth
is both easier and harder than you may have thought.  It's
easier, because the answer is so simple and attainable by
almost anyone.  It's harder, because few business managers
will believe that it can be that simple and easy.

Why is there such a great opportunity for growth right now?

One reason is that most of your competitors are pulling
back in fear.  It's easier than ever to steal share from
your competitors when they are hiding out.  And, as long as
you don't fall into price competition as your primary tool
to create growth, you can see great gains in market share
and profitability, no matter what the economy is doing.

Cahners Publishing has done decades worth of research to
prove that recessions are the best time to jump past
competitors.  They have continually found that those
companies who use the resources to create more
non-discounted demand, while everyone else is holding back,
grow much greater than their competitors during and after
the downturn.

My own research and testing over more than 25 years has
proven conclusively that you can dramatically grow market
dominance and customer loyalty without discounting even
more easily during a downturn than when things are good.

The real choice will be, "Do you want to be the one left
behind to follow someone else's lead, or do you want to
emerge 6, 12, or 18 months from now as a dominant leader?"
Act wisely now, and you can leap-frog past competitors.

Another reason is that there also is no lack of customer
need.  Despite the typical perception that "customer
satisfaction" surveys measure how satisfied customers are,
reality is that most customers are not at all satisfied.
They just won't tell you that.  Most of what is measured by
customer satisfaction surveys is what the marketer thinks
is important, not what the customer really values.  In
fact, most customers won't even reveal what is most
important to them in a customer satisfaction survey.

I do a lot of innovation research, and invariably I uncover
entire areas of deep need (functional and emotional) that
customers have never revealed to anyone, because they never
believed that they could fulfill those needs through a
product in that category.  And the marketers in that
category are completely blind to it.  It would be like
never recognizing the opportunity for a Victoria's Secret,
because there are already so many other retailers that sell
lingerie and pajamas.  But such are the opportunities that
dominate categories in a short time, no matter what the
economy is doing.

The best part is that emotional, ego-satisfaction needs are
the ones that create the greatest growth in a downturn, and
they cost the least to address.  Ego-satisfaction has two
elements, according to a 15-year research study my company
conducted into what creates sustainable growth:  1) how
they feel about themselves (I call this "self-satisfaction)
and 2) how they believe others feel about them (I call this
"personal significance").  Every time I have helped a
company understand and address these unmet needs, that
company has grown dramatically without discounting… no
matter what the economy is doing.

The real barriers to growth now:

The economy is not the real barrier to growth right now.
Yes, people and businesses may slow their spending for the
next several months, but they will not stop spending.  And
what they spend their money on will be defined by how they
feel about themselves and what they think the product will
do to change that self-perception.

The real barriers to growth are…

1. Believing that low price is critical – it's actually the
last criteria, not the first.  It only comes into play when
the customer realizes that there is no meaningful
difference between products.  Our research showed that
approximately 90% of consumers will spend more for
something they want, even though they may tell researchers
that they won't.

2. Believing that function is most important – improving
quality or performance works best when it supports
ego-satisfaction.  In really tough economies,
ego-satisfaction beats functional performance or quality.
Almost every Alpha company we studied (companies who
dominate their category and have greater price leverage)
had lower quality or product performance than many of its
competitors.  Functional performance is only a rationale
for justifying the emotional, ego-satisfaction basis for
the buying decision.

3. Believing that customer expectations get lower in a
downturn – they actually go higher.  Customers actually
demand much more, especially in ego-satisfaction, during a
downturn.  To really win, you must satisfy those emotional
needs and then drive expectations even higher.  The company
that successfully accomplishes that will become the new
leader.

4. Believing that measuring outcomes is how to manage
success – "causes" are more important than final outcomes,
because they let you modify and improve your process as you
go BEFORE final outcomes.  Measuring sales and profit is
backward-looking.  It's like driving a car by looking out
the back window.  Look ahead at the emotional elements of
the buying decision process, and you can manage improvement
far more easily and cost-effectively.

5. Believing that when competitors follow your lead, you
need to stop them – followers are your best marketing
support.  Our research into what creates sustainable
success proved this.  Every competitor who follows your
lead or competes against you is proving your value, not
theirs.  Just don't let them pass you in driving customer
expectations.  Incorporate the best things they are doing
and overcome the weak things they do.

You can do better than just survive in an economic
downturn.  Be smart about shifting current resources into
ego-satisfaction fulfillment, and you will grow, while
everyone else wonders what happened to them.  Recognize
that this may be the best opportunity your company has ever
had to grow dramatically and sustainably, and a year from
now you could be the dominant success in your category.

The Costa Rica Gourmet Coffee Crop Report

Well its November 2008 and a great time to be in Costa Rica
to visit a local coffee farm. It's also harvest time for
most of Costa Rica and the initial gourmet coffee reports
are outstanding. Look for a very flavorful and smooth
coffee and tons of it. The best gourmet  coffees stem from
the jungles of Costa Rica. Costa Rican Coffees are known to
be full-flavored, with lively acidity, and are very
fragrant and tangy. Arabica is the only species of coffee
that Costa Rica sells. It is the sole source of fine coffee
and comes from a more delicate, higher-altitude tree and
grows at a lower temperature than the Robusta bean. The
higher the altitude, the finer the coffee will be. Arabica
coffees receive only 2 hours a day of direct sunlight. The
Arabica bean is harder and has a denser aroma. It is the
bean of choice for the gourmet coffee connoisseurs.

Costa Rican coffee has set the standards for fine
wet-processed coffee for the rest of Central and South
America.  The most famous coffees by region are Tarrazu,
Tres Rios, Heredi  (Barva), Alajuela and Alajuela
Poas Volcano. Single Origin Coffee: Estate or "varietal"
coffees are unblended coffees grown on specific estates or
farms in specific regions of Costa Rica.  With this
designation the consumer is made aware of coffee varietal
used, social practices and environmental practices (land
conservation, recycling, natural fertilizers & no chemical

employed in the production of their coffee. Costa Rica has
one of the widest ranges of microclimates, due to the
drastic change in altitude and climate over relatively
short distances. These differences in climatic factors
determine the flavor of the final cup.

Costa Rican coffee has set the standards for fine
wet-processed coffee for the rest of Central and South
America.  The regions famous for exceptional coffee are
Tarrazu, Tres Rios, Heredi , Alajuela and Alajuela
Poas Volcano.  Costa Rican coffee grown in a specific
region is also called a coffee appellation. Farmers are
saying the past summer weather conditions were perfect and
no adverse storms to factor in. Farmers are predicting the
best crop in years - both in quantity and quality. Farmers
are especially excited about the organic crops and the
highest grades of Tarrazu and Tres Rios coffees. The number
one select is supposed to be the most robust flavor it has
ever had. We are seeing huge coffee cherries everywhere we
go - report Samuel Diaz, an organic coffee farmer from the
Central Valley.

And farmers across all sections of Costa Rica are giving
the same excellent reports. Tres Rios which harvests in
December says the cherries are so full of coffee beans they
are sitting on the ground in many areas. The Tarrazu region
which harvests in November gives the same bountiful report.

The Brunca Region and Orasi regions which started
harvesting this month report huge crops. Their gourmet
coffee is getting rave reviews from local gourmet coffee
drinkers. Says Maria Sanchez - if this were wine we would
be putting Italy to shame. The West Valley starts
harvesting next week and the locals say the coffee will be
off the charts in every category.

Unfortunately many Costa Rican coffee brands are not 100%
pure regional coffee. This high quality Costa Rica coffee
is in short supply and is mixed in with other Costa Rica
coffee regions to increase the profits and raise the taste
quality. These brands should actually be called Costa Rica
Coffee Blends but pass themselves off as the real thing.
Costa Rica coffee is also used to elevate the quality of
many other gourmet coffee blends. So be sure your Costa
Rican coffee is labeled Tarrazu or Tres Rios not just Costa
Rican to be sure you are getting a pure estate coffee and
not a blended gourmet coffee.

Looks like 2008 will go down as a record year for Costa
Rica coffee. Considered by many to produce the world's best
overall gourmet coffee, now seems to be the time to try
your favorite Costa Rica coffee. Start looking in December
to reap the rewards of this excellent crop. Its got a great
flavor and very smooth this year with a huge harvest it
should be easy to find.

These days of low costs flights offer fantastic savings for
those able or willing to book in advance. Tickets to
European destinations are now regularly available for less
than the price of a meal out. And so it becomes increasing
bizarre to find that the costs of parking at the departure
airport for a few days or a couple of weeks can be actually
much more expensive than the cost of the flight itself. But
there are ways to keep these costs in check.

On-site parking at the airport is usually the most
expensive option: so do you really have to park on-site? If
so (and the convenience cannot be denied) then the best
option is to book well in advance. In the same way as
booking the flight in advance saves money, so also with car
parking. Companies such as Airport Parking Offers or
Holiday Parking UK actually have specific advance booking
options for many onsite airport car parks.

However, if early booking is not possible, and you are

enjoy and can pass on, and which also include free car
parking for the duration of the holiday. This can often
work out at the same or similar prices to airport parking
alone, with the added benefit of a good nights rest before
the holiday.

Also, of course, this option is very useful for those late
return flights. A great idea is to leave the car with the
hotel, and pick it up on your return from holiday, after a
nights rest at the hotel, a good breakfast and a relaxed
drive home.

How to Steam Milk on Your Espresso Machine

The objective of milk steaming and foaming is to produce a
firm, semi-liquid velvety milk foam, ideal for cappuccinos
and lattes. This is achieved by the use of heat and air, by
way of steam.

Always use a stainless steel straight sided or
bell-bottomed jug for your milk frothing. Never use
plastic, glass or china jugs. Stainless steel offers good
heat transfer which is an essential part of the process.

Always use chilled fresh milk - milk will take in air
easier if it is cold. Full fat milk produces a denser,
longer lasting foam than low fat milk, but this is personal
preference.

Make sure the jug is half full or less, as the volume of
milk will double during the frothing process.

The first thing to do is to purge the steam wand of any
water residue, making sure that none of the steam jets are
blocked and position the wand so that it will allow the jug
to easily pass under the tip.

Centre the tip of the steam wand of your espresso machine
on the milk surface and submerge it by 1 cm (half an inch).

Turn the steam valve fully on.

Holding the jug in both hands, gently adjust the depth of
the wand tip until you hear a distinct "tssss tssss" sound
which indicates that air is being drawn into the milk. The
milk level should rise quickly as it expands or stretches.
As this happens, lower the jug slowly, keeping the tip just
below the surface at all times.

If the milk bubbles too fiercely and spits then the tip is
too high and you should raise the jug slightly, however if
you hear a screech then there is insufficient volume of
steam so you should lower the jug slightly.

During this process try to avoid breaking the surface of
the milk with the tip as this can introduce large bubbles
into the mixture and spoil its texture.

To complete the process, lower the tip of the steam wand
(by raising the jug) towards the bottom of the jug and at
the same time move the wand to one side of the jug. The
milk should start to swirl and you should here a high
pitched growl. This adds texture to the mixture as many
tiny bubbles are formed.

Continue to swirl the milk in this way until the side of
the jug is too hot to touch comfortably and the growl
becomes a low purr. Turn off the steam quickly with the
wand tip still submerged.

Remove the wand and wipe clean immediately.

Tap the jug on the counter and swirl the jug around gently.
You should have a jug of firm, velvety foam over hot
steamed milk.

Pour the mixture over an espresso by gently rocking the jug
from side to side to ensure the right combination of hot
milk and foam is delivered into the cup.

Catalina is ideal daytrip from Southern California mainland

Boarding the Catalina Express at Dana Point, we have the
feeling we're going to escape Southern California traffic
and congestion in VERY short order. We are right. Within
minutes, we're "at sea" in the channel between Los Angeles
and Catalina Island - no horns honking, no crawling along
the freeway and no worries.

We're on our way to Avalon, the picturesque little town
built near the southern tip of Catalina Island. It's just a
75-minute ride from the dock at Dana Point, and even a
shorter distance from other points closer to L.A.  Our
slight trepidation about potential seasickness quickly
evaporates as we see how well our sleek craft cuts through
the moderate waves on what will become a perfect sunny
Southern California day.

Along the way we see merchant vessels as well as a
half-dozen or so 30-odd-foot pleasure craft obviously
rigged for fishing and congregating at what must be a prime
fishing ground. Later, to the port side we run a race with
dozens of dolphins who seem intent on showing that anything
man can do, they can do better.

Arriving in Avalon, the colorful, ornate - and, yes,
expensive -- homes arrayed on hillsides and mountain tops
combine with the myriad of boats and other sea-going
vessels to create the impression we have just been
transported to the French Riviera. Not bad considering a
roundtrip ticket on the Express was only about 45 bucks and
when all is said and done, we'll be home tonight for dinner.

But it's obvious from the gear being packed off the Express
that there are many more overnighters than daytrippers. On
this particular voyage, the hold is chock-full of
suitcases, packs, tents, coolers and everything that would
allow one to wander off and get to know the island upclose
and personal.

For us it's a quick diversion from the rat race. We soon
get our bearings on Crescent Street, the aptly-named street
that follows the contour of the harbor. About six streets
intersect with Crescent, all heading mauka (island-speak
for "toward the mountains"). It's in this tiny little grid
that you find most of the shops, restaurants and other
tourist services.

We're traveling as a family today - mom, dad and
three-year-old - so it's a burger joint for lunch. But the
burgers are tasty and quite reasonably priced. Those
looking for finer dining and significantly higher prices
will not be disappointed, judging from the menus posted as
several fine restaurants.

On this warm summer day there is an abundance of families
visiting with kids of all ages. But it's also not difficult
to find couples holding hands or checking into one of
several boutique inns, or frolicking in the unusually warm
ocean. In fact, Catalina is one of those places that can
pull off being a destination for both families and romantic
couples. They peacefully co-exist on this little island,
and neither experience seems negatively impacted by the
other.

As Gwen Bronson explains, there are many opportunities for
a couple to slip away on the island and do what romantics
do. The many hotels and inns, just by themselves, are
pretty darn romantic and, as Communications Director for
the Catalina Chamber of Commerce, Gwen's doing her job to
point that out. But she also suggests several romantic
activities such as a sea kayaking up the coast. In a very
short distance you will find a beach that is not accessible
by anyone who does not have a boat.

"Just visit the market and pick up your picnic lunch first
and go about a half hour up the coast," she says.
"Ninety-nine percent of the time, you'll have the whole
beach to yourself."

Or rent a golf cart and drive the many roads around Avalon
- just $40 an hour. Horseback riding is always good for a
romantic mood, as long as it doesn't create any physical
limitations. Botanical gardens are here for communing with
Nature.

Like most visitors to Catalina, we find plenty to keep us
occupied for the day. We enjoy people-watching in the
outdoor cafes and exploring the winding roadways that climb
out of Avalon to spectacular views of the harbor. In
general, we just soak up this island atmosphere,
recognizing it may be a while longer before we get back to
the real French Riviera or anywhere else in the world with
such island charm.

Our day on the island goes by quickly and the trip back to
Dana Point is a relaxing end to a perfect Southern
California daytrip. We arrive home in the San Diego area
refreshed, ready to tackle the work week -- ready to share
stories about our daytrip to the "Riviera" and resolved to
put "to sea" much more often.

from seven ports in Orange and Los Angeles counties.

ranging from deep-sea fishing to horseback riding to hiking

the lowest prices are in the shoulder season, April-May and

One thing many people realize when it comes to becoming
successful is they need a personal development plan. All of
us are at different points in our life in terms of personal
development.

In this article we will take a look at how you can go back
to the beginning, and set up a plan to develop your
personal success.

1. You must set meaningful goals. These goals need to
reflect why you want to do something and then how you are
going to do it. Reading your goals every day will help
motivate you to work towards achieving that.

2. You have to work at hitting the goals that you have set.

and personal development. It is a process that is developed
one step at a time and only happens when you are putting in

you have even achieved them. That is ok, but you need to

5. Consider starting a blog and posting on it on a regular
basis. Personal development can be very motivating to other
people as well. As you begin to work through your personal
development plan, feel free to make notes of that, and post
it in your blog.

If this is not something you want to do, then you should
start a diary of your own, and chart your success in it. It
is very motivating to read your success, and having an a
journal can play a big role in future success and personal
development.

6. Learn to practice the art of visualization. Actually
seeing your goals in front of you will help you achieve
them at a faster rate.

7. Never give up, and always believe in yourself. We all
develop at different rates, and the only thing that is
important is you believe in yourself, and overcome any
obstacles.
